Thank you for your reply.
I put the project on the back burner until another card was purchased.
This time it's Creative dxr3 hosted by a generic Pentium3-based PC.
Installed Debian Squeeze from scratch then em8300 modules.
Tested the card in mplayer environment and this time it worked like a charm!
So, the next task is to try the same card in my thin client PC to see if it works.
