Yes. Known problem. I haven't tracked it down yet, though. It *may* be related
to some changes in kpluginfactory which I had forgotten over the past few
months. Try re-building kdelibs and kdegraphics with the most recent specfiles
and patches.

No. The problem is in Poppler, anyway.

You can build your own updated version from source by following the
instructions on techbase.kde.org or you can wait for a new round of packages,
which will come out eventually. Probably once we have KDE 4.2.0 nailed down.
