Hi, Michael! Thanks for the attention!
I will try to explain better. Sorry for that, it's the problem of not being a native English speaker and not knowing musical theory so well...
Let's say that a song loaded in Rosegarden's main window is divided in tracks and sectors, being each of those "sectors" represented by a number in the ruler that appears right above all the tracks. While the song is played, the cursor "walks" sequentially through the sectors. (Maybe now you know what's the ruler I am talking about!).
The feeling I have is that in Rosegarden those sectors always have a fixed size, no matter what the tempo signature or speed (tempo) is, and that these sectors are there just like simple labels. While listening, for example, to all the tracks below the sector 2, it seems that it does not matter if the song being played is Taxman or Ozzy Osbourne's "Changes" -- sector 2 will always have the same width, the cursor will walk through the music at the same speed, and the number of compasses during sector 2 will vary according to each different song. If I open a certain track in the Matrix Editor, the number of notes and compasses in one single sector will be higher in "Taxman" than in "Changes".
What I would like to achieve was that each sector, in track editor and in matrix editor, would correspond exactly and only to one single "musical bar". For that, the length of each section should vary according to the time signature and tempo. One single bar in "Taxman" would play faster (and be visually shorter) than one single bar in "Changes", even though they both would contain, musically speaking, the same 8 beats, or 2 compasses, whatever.
It looks logical and this is exactly the behaviour of Hydrogen: the standard pattern has 8 beats (one complete "musical bar" in 4/4), and those patterns (represented by one blue square in Hydrogen song editor) only play faster or slower, according to the song's tempo, while still being represented as one single blue square.
This is what I'd like to have in Rosegarden -- each numbered "sector" corresponding exactly to one musical bar -- but it's not what I have now. Actually, when playing a song simultaneously in Rosegarden and Hydrogen, exactly 5 patterns of Hydrogen (i.e., 5 blue squares, or 5 complete musical bars) are played while Rosegarden's cursor walks through one single "sector". I would like to setup Rosegarden in a way that each "sector" shown in the rulers (tracks view, matrix view) would correspond to one single "musical bar", or one single blue square in Hydrogen. Isn't there a way to do that?
Thank you very much and regards!
