Yeah, it appears timing is big. For instance, Song of Resurgence
heals 20 Energy. If you play it on top of a Canon of Casualty during a burst, and your creature hasn't been injured yet, then it's useless. It would resolve in this order 1)Song of Resurgence doesn't do anything because there is no damage to heal, then 2) Canon of Casualty deals 20 damage, then 3) whatever effects are in the burst resolve. However, if you pass on the burst with the Canon of Casualty, take the damage, then start a new burst with your Song of Resurgence, then it would have the desired effect. Such a simple difference in timing can produce very different results.
