I haven't used 1.4 either, but I've been following the discussion and from my
experience with 1.3 I'd say that generifying models is definately a good idea.
+1 for that

I'm not so sure about generifying the components though. I think the benefit
would not be that great and it may very well be more trouble than it's worth -
especially when writing/extending components for your own needs.
