Re: virago running on one cylinder
My bike was exhibiting these symptoms (backfiring that is) from the very beginning (as stated, 3x's the "pros" kept telling me that it was "normal" operation for a V-twin) and 15-years later, I discover a short and repair it. Now, the backfiring has completely vanished so I can't say the short occurred due to age and I certainly don't agree that it's "normal" operation. However, I can say that it was probably worsened over time due to the movement of the steering head though cause the dropped cylinder (in combination with the backfire) didn't start occurring until last year.
afaik, the problem has been licked cause it's been several days and many miles without a single operational issue...if you're having this issue, check for the short first. What do you have to lose?!?
