Anne-

Bravo (again) for tackling this challenging, but ultra-important topic.

It may be of some comfort to know that, starting with Plone 3.1 (coming
very soon!), buildout will be powering the popular "Universal Installer"
which means that average integrators will not have to go out of their
way to get/configure buildout.   I would strongly encourage you to
consider writing docs against the "Universal Installer with Buildout"
release, and its standard file structure/layout.

You can download a version of Plone 3.0.6 that uses this new
buildout-powered installer at:
https://launchpad.net/plone/3.0/3.0.6/+download/Plone-3.0.6-UnifiedInstallerBuildout-beta4.tar.gz

It's really amazing, thanks to a lot of great work from Steve McMahon.

best,
jon
