Recommended background reading

These two docs are primary.  I'll probably send along pointers to
others, produced by other groups (eg architecture).

Work done by the Distributed Services group
   The primary documents are GDD-06-24 and the group's later summary slides.
    The latter has more concrete recommendations, e.g. priorities.
