Registering for an update

Hello,

today I am waiting for a document, a specification. The analyst will
commit it into our repository as soon as it will ready. I am updating
from the repository periodically and asking myself: is it possible to
register to be notified if that document (and only that document) is
committed?

I understand that we may modify the post-commit script and write a
nice application ourselves to manage a list of subscribers, eventually
with a nice user friendly GUI to allow non-tech people to register to
document notification. But.. do you know if there is anything similar
already made?

Thanks

If you are on Windows, you can try this app:

http://code.google.com/p/commitmonitor/

I do not know if it allows you to monitor a specific file or not, but
it looks like it just takes a URL so you ought to be able to give it
the URL of the file or its parent folder.
