Getting a bit ahead of ourselves aren't we Andy - it's tonight  :-P

That said, I can't make it, so if any wants to post info/photos *after*
the event I'd love to hear about it!

No I'm not - I'm 1 day in the future from you guys - oh by the way, you
didn't take any videos, there were some dodgy low-qual camera photos
that everyone forgot to send on and Simon won best performance, donning
a glam wig and wowing the ladies with his Elvis/Eddy Valen Halen guitar
struttin' stuff ;-)  Nick also lost his phone, but later will realise it
fell down the back of the car seat and will find it there after 2 hours
of insisting Andy was making this up, with the mistaken belief that he
left it at the Velvet Lounge the night before.

The event write-up (including photos and videos) is now online:

- http://letsmakegames.org/2009/08/26/we-made-beautiful-music/

Be sure to check out the photos and compilation video for some of the
awesome costumes!

We've also started a YouTube channel:

- http://www.youtube.com/user/letsmakegames

So feel free to direct us to any other Perth game scene videos. ;)

Stopping iPhone hackers

Try this... looks promising

Easiest way to prevent it:
http://thwart-ipa-cracks.blogspot.com/2008/11/detection.html

Basically, in AppController.mm, in the function
applicationDidFinishLaunching, add:

NSBundle *bundle = [NSBundle mainBundle];
NSDictionary *info = [bundle infoDictionary];
if ([info objectForKey: @"SignerIdentity"] != nil) {
/* do something */
}

I just return false so the hackers just think it's broken.

Sadly that's been broken now :(

New one clicks fix their bundles so this detection method doesn't work.

The only foolproof way (at the moment) is to detect the encryption of
the binary - BUT that method detects ad hoc and app store builds (that
apple tests, not the ones that end up in the app store) so if your
program implements some obvious piracy screen - apple rejects it :(

Sorry I don't have an iPhone or use the app store, so I'm a bit out of
the loop.
What are the hackers/users able to do now that they couldn't before?

Can they run apps that they can download from some dodgy internet site?
Or can users just crack apps swap them with friends without paying?

Just curious.

Thanks
Josh

Jailbroken iPhones allow you to run the debugger and dump the memory
image (which is decrypted) of any program.

People have written "one click" apps that basically mean someone buys 1
copy of the app, runs the "one click pirate" app and has a nice .ipa
that can be installed on jailbroken iPhones.

the old pirated apps had the signer identity stripped so you could look
for this and if it wasn't present, you knew it was pirated.

Now they've curcumvented that :(
