hello mailinglist;

As part of my master thesis i'm modelling a MAS predator-prey Scenario
with Repast Symphony.
Another task is that the communication of the agents shall be conform to
the fipa specification.
After reading a hand of specifications i am not very sure what to do. it
seems to be a massive
affort like describing a language and so on to make the bit of
communication between the agents conform to fipa.
Does anyone know, if it is possible to connect the messaging of the
agents in repast with fipa easily?
Has anyone experience doing that or any hints how to handle it?
Or is it just like this: repast is not listed in the list of simulation
enviroments which are conform to fipa.
Making my simulation conform to fipa would not just be much effort for
my programm but even in the implementation
of repast. i wouldn't bemoan to the let fipa out of my simuluation cause
the other tasks are more than enough.
thanks for all answers,
Ramin

I can't see much benefit that FIPA brings to a predator-prey model, as
it mostly has to do with things like the semantics of communication
between intelligent agents. Unless your agents are doing negotiation
or something (which I don't think is a normal part of predator prey
relationships) it probably won't help, and it can be rather a
heavyweight protocol.

One place you could look is in the JADE toolkit, which does do FIPA
compliant communication - you might be able to grab all the message
passing classes from there.

That said, FIPA messaging might be a useful addition to RepastS in
general, especially the bits for defining protocols of interaction
between agents.
