Hi, i did this on the last commit to our git but on kde-app i didn't had time yet..
(because i will lauch a 4th beta with more improvements... pop ups notifications and a system tray icon...)
i just don't have time to code these days...

btw did you compile it on a Debian?
i don't know what the hell happened but my desktop debian lenny compiles fine but i got tons of linker errors on my laptop also debian lenny...
maybe this is because of my corrupted fat on the pen drive that i used to copy all the .debs to don't kill my connection...
bad bad i'll need to reinstall it i think...

Daniel.

Assunto: GPLv2+ license for QPackageKit

Daniel and Adrien:

Thank you for developing QPackageKit, which is urgently needed in order to integrate KDE and modern Linux distributions. I noticed that several files are missing license headers or are licensed GPLv2 only.

In order for QPackageKit to be part of KDE (specifically the kdeadmin module), it needs to be compatible with the GPLv3. KDE has taken this policy so that it can link to GPLv3-only software such as SAMBA. See http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/KDE_Relicensing for more information.

The easiest way to make QPackageKit meet the KDE licensing guidelines is to license all files GPLv2+. Then you can just check the code into the KDE SVN repository ( http://techbase.kde.org/Contribute/Get_a_SVN_Account ), and the SVN hooks will let you know about any license incompatibilities.

Thank you,

Vlad

Great to know, thanks! When I wrote the email I hadn't noticed that Jonathan Riddell had asked about pretty much the same thing a couple of days ago on packagekit@....

I actually found out about QPackageKit from browsing the git repositories on FreeDesktop.org as opposed to kde-apps, but the naming of that git repo seems to indicate that it's outdated:
http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=users/hughsient/QPackageKit.old

I'm afraid I don't have Lenny installed, and I haven't tried compiling QPackageKit on my laptop, which is still running Ubuntu 7.04 :)

I just did a fresh checkout of
"git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/packagekit/PackageKit-Qt"
and the COPYING file still says GPL 3, the files in lib/* seem to be
GPL 2 only and some of the files in gui/ are also GPL 2 only.
