Burnham Institute for Medical Research, an independent, non-profit,
public-benefit basic research organization, located in La Jolla,
California, is seeking a Research Assistant for the newly established
laboratory of Dr. Malene Hansen. Dr. Hansen’s research focuses on
understanding the molecular mechanisms of aging, using Caenorhabditis
elegans as the main model organism. The lab conducts research using
a multidisciplinary approach that integrates genetics, molecular
biology, biochemistry and microscopy to address our research objectives.
Responsibilities of the successful candidate include setting up and
organizing a new research lab, handling laboratory administration,
overseeing equipment installation and maintenance, ordering and
stocking of lab supplies, maintaining various reagent collections,
and inventories, training and supervision of new lab personnel,
assisting with experiments as determined by the PI. Other duties may
include preparing general lab reagents.
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in science, and a minimum of 3
years of practical laboratory experience in biochemistry, molecular
biology or genetics. Experience with C. elegans is preferred.
Emphasis on responsibility, organization, independency, problem
solving, database management and interpersonal skills,. The lab is
seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual, who is capable
of multi-tasking and team-working. The successful applicant will
