Sorry if anyone has already responded...this was my mistake...in doing
the exercises I neglected to make changes in my main file ( first.cpp )
for my MinGW examples, but I had made changes to the ( first.cpp ) file
I was using for Visual C++.
So that is all what was needed...some changes in the main file that
would allow the my_resource.rc file to be implemented.
The way I compiled worked ok.
