Returning Packmaster userI haven't used Packmaster in a few years and find myself in a sticky
situation. I am working with my pack to try to rebuild our database. Our former advancement person is unable to give us a copy of the database she had, so I'm using an old copy that I found and trying to merge it with a scoutnet download from our council registrar. I'm doing a lot of experimenting and would like to be able to delete the entire database and start over without reinstalling. Is this possible? Can I just make a copy of the Data directory and overwrite it to start over? -- Thank you, John Halter Assistant Council Commissioner Central FL Council, B.S.A. http://commissioners.cfcbsa.org "PackDude" at www.Scoutboard.com (Scoutboard.com is online again!) ...and a good 'ol Bobwhite too! Re: Returning Packmaster userSure can!!!
I would pick the most 'complete' database. Council's may have all the boys, but may not have all the awards, attendance, history, etc. I may take more time, but you might be better served (or the Pack's history might be better served) to take the old datebase and update (import) it based on the council's records. But to 'overwrite', open packmaster, click on the 'R' with the colorful floppy discs. find the path of the 'new data' and click OK. Follow the prompts after that. If you have a Scoutnet file - go to file, import, Scoutnet, follow the prompts. This would be the best avenue in my opinion. Your Council office is able to send you the Scoutnet file. DO NOT OPEN IT!! if the file is opened before it is imported it will become corrupt! (Don't know why, but it happens. Once the file is created NO ONE should open it until it is imported.) Good Luck! RE: Re: Returning Packmaster userHi Sarah,
FYI... Once the file is created NO ONE should open it until it is imported.) The file is a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file which is the first format that Lotus 123 and Excel used. If you open it with Excel and then try to save it, it will try to save it as an XLS format. You should be able to save it as a CSV file from Excel and it will not become corrupt. I have done this in the past with the Advancement Report. Yours in Scouting, Tom Newman scout043@...
