Review fix for issue #3209

Hi,

I would like someone to review the patch that I have attached to issue
#3209. I want to check into SJSAS91_FCS_BRANCH CVS branch. I have run
entity-persistence-tests. I found 1 extra failure, but that comes even
without my changes. So, I am ignoring that failure.

I won't be surprised if the same issue exists in eclipselink. It should
be straight forward to forward port the patch to eclipselink workspace,
otherwise we shall see a regression between v2.1.1 and v3.
