Right mouse buttons stopped workingHi people,
My wife sent me a mail (from her job) that the right mouse button stopped working. Changing mice doesn't solve the problem, neither does entering/exiting xfce. Once a program is started, the button _does_ work. So, it's not impossible to call the application menu by right-clicking the background (I had removed the menu button in the toolbar). She can now start programs using Alt-F2 (run menu), but how do I find out why the right button stopped working? Thanks, John _______________________________________________ Xfce mailing list Xfce@... http://foo-projects.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce http://www.xfce.org |

But on my boxes Xfce always had the funny behaviour that the right mouse button wouldn't invoke the menu right after starting up Xfce until I moved the mouse at least a wee bit. Just clicking wouldn't do. regards, Markus -- Markus Hoenicka http://www.mhoenicka.de AQ score 38 _______________________________________________ Xfce mailing list Xfce@... http://foo-projects.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce http://www.xfce.org |

Does xev register the button click? You need to hold the mouse pretty still or you won't be able to see the click event, since mouse movement also generates events. ~David _______________________________________________ Xfce mailing list Xfce@... http://foo-projects.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce http://www.xfce.org |

Does the button not work *anywhere*? Or only on the desktop, where she would expect to have a menu on right clic, and doesn't? I'd check if xfdesktop is running, and if not restart it, just in case. Until I read about the Alt-F2 solution, I couldn't indicate her to run xev. Now I've shown her (she came home to lunch), so she can test that... Thanks for the suggestion. Well, it doesn't work on the taskbar either, so I suspect that's not the problem. But exiting/reentering X11 with Alt-Ctl-Backspace didn't solve the problem, and I suspect that would restart xfdesktop, doesn't it? BTW, xfdesktop _was_ running (I checked over the WiFi link). Er, I suspect there's nothing wrong with your right mouse button... just xfdesktop isn't running. -brian _______________________________________________ Xfce mailing list Xfce@... http://foo-projects.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce http://www.xfce.org |

Sorry, missed the email where you said it is. But I'd suggest quitting xfdesktop (xfdesktop --quit from a terminal), and restart it in a terminal to look for any output. -brian _______________________________________________ Xfce mailing list Xfce@... http://foo-projects.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce http://www.xfce.org |

Xev showed everything normal - so the key events are generated normally.
