Roadmap Update

Okay this is going to be one of those "what am I up to" kind of emails
.. but apparently for the uDig project :-)

What are we up to:
- Working through issues here
http://udig.refractions.net/confluence/display/HACK/Road+Map
- vendor specific rendering parameters now work!
- import wizard for moasic
- faster shapefile export
- decorations for "localhost" data sources in the catalog (remote data
soruces are still lazy)
- double click speed in preferences
- allow scale decorator to report the scale on the map black board for
printing workflow

Tasks on our plate:
- Test/Fix Oracle wizard (Jody now has a VM with oracle but is not
sure how to connect to it)
- Eclipse 3.5.x (ie "P2") update site
- 1.2-M8 October 30th when moovida and silvia get on a plane and stop
fixing things
- 1.2-RC on the November 7th (the rush is that GeoTools 2.6.0 has been
released and we have accomplished our platform goals for 1.2.x)
- 1.2.0 on the November 14th at some conference

Impediments:
- copy and paste of features does not refresh and appears to harm the
viewportmodel requiring a zoom to all
- JGrass is depending on IDE feature when all it needs is enough to
support the "editor" (there is a separate feature for this but we need
to look)
- The DnD code is tripping up when multiple files transfered and it
can only accept a precentage
- Table View continues to be expensive to debug
- Print needs to be restored at some point (even if you love PDF
printing to an operating system PDF driver on mac or windows will
allow the creation of much larger PDF files)

I have now been able to connect; need someone with data to try it out.
Still some issues about next/finish buttons requiring you to go back
and forth between the pages.

I am uploading the files now:
- windows zip has included JRE (Emily can you try making an installer
again?)
- linux has included JRE (from September; no idea if it will work so I
am including ones without a JRE as well). Moovida I am not sure you
uploaded a jre for me to included yet?

I can try it out, but only on monday. I've been able to connect, too,
and also had the issues you're seeing with the wizard. I've actually
managed to add a layer, but never saw it render.

Thanks for fixing the issues.

Have a nice weekend!

I just tried testing on linux; and failed. The build instructions
asked me to copy a udig.sh script that does not function :-(
Did we miss a commit of an updated script? This one refers to a "bin"
directory that does not exist.

Something for me to look forward to when moovida gets back online.

Thanks Ugo; I want to make sure this one is fixed up before anouncing
1.2-M8.

Hi Jody,

I've been on this for the last hour or so and got nowhere close to
creating a new layer :-(

I can connect OK, sometimes. And I even saw udig wanting to show the
next wizard page - the resources view - but that was only once. The
wizard basically freezes (doesn't allow forward or backward and
eventually grays out).

I have a test class which connects to the db and lists feature types, so
the problem is neither the db nor geotools.

I'm online, coding other stuff in rcp and available for debugging this
anytime someone offers a helping hand :-)

Cheers,

Ugo

Hi Hugo:

I have been watching the geoserver 2.0 release struggle with the
transition this week as well. Users are noticing that the new
datastores only support tables that are set up correctly etc...

I will try and talk to moovida tomorrow about backing our datastores
support back to 1.2-M6 levels (ie the "unsupported" datastores that we
have been using for a couple of years).

It also seems that the wizards are having trouble as you have noted; I
am taking a break after FOSS4G and am not quite sure how to find time
to fix them this week.

hi,

OK, thanks for the info. We'll wait for moovida. He's the one now who
needed the oracle to work. (Our release is only due at the end of the
year/beginning of next. If this gets too stressing, I think we might opt
for commercial support from you.)

Cheers,

Ugo

I figured out that we won't have a oracle spatial to test against, so
from me there is almost green light.
I need some more day to make sure about small things really easy to fix.
