Hey everyone! Thank you for all the debate, I got a lot of useful information with them! Sorry if it became so much off-topic, I didn't want to create a fuss here.

But there's another question I have been thinking of. It seems that most Linux users are adept to a three-pieces combo: Ardour for recording audio, Rosegarden as a MIDI tracker, Hydrogen for drums. Anyway, I have made a number of recordings without Ardour, using Rosegarden for recording and editing audio. As Rosegarden can also deal with audio and plugins, what exactly is the advantage of using Ardour for such task?

Thank you!

Because all the cool kids use Ardour?

Because some day you will need all the extra features, so you might as well
deal with the learning curve head on and go straight to the top with Ardour?

Because Rosegarden sucks, and its developers are a bunch of clueless losers
who need to hurry the hell up and fix all the bugs?

These seem to be popular answers outside the Rosegarden lists.  Sometimes even
on the Rosegarden lists.

Myself, I have yet to use Ardour for anything.

Tempo ramps, maps and similar

Hi all,

I know there's a feature request about this
(http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1026965&group_id=4932&atid=354932)
and it's got a fairly high priority (although last comment from 2006) so
I'll try not to be a 'rant-guy' about it.

I'de just like to ask other users how they go about doing
accelerandos/rallentandos in Rosegarden, if they ever need to do them
(maybe it's mostly a classical music thing?)
Do you use the tempo'thingy' on the track view? The tempo list? Some
black magic I'm not aware of?
Maybe I seem to miss how to effectively use the ramp functionality in
the track view... When I insert a new tempo it creates a 'mark' but the
ramp look wiered. I get it you can't actually draw arbitrary lines (like
you do with controllers and velocities in the matrix).
Suggestions welcome.

Kind regards,
Lorenzo
PS. I was tempted to give examples from other software but I'm not sure
it would be the done thing on this mailing list :)

I use tempo ramping quite a lot for my MIDI drumming.
It looks like it goes in linear increments between two tempo marks but I would not be aware of more complicated curve.

I guess you can approach a curve of your fancy with small segments ? That's what i usually do: define a lot of tempo marks, and ramp up and down in between. The result can be satisfactory. Since I am into drumming only with rosegarden, the feature as it is now is enough, but that's just me.

I think the part Chris never finished was making it possible to export these
tempo ramps to .mid files.  Tempo ramps themselves have been around and
working for a long time.

Tempo ramps.  I'd say these days I insert all tempo on the tempo ruler, via
the right click menu.  "Insert Tempo"  "Ramp Tempo to Next Tempo" and so on.
I haven't done this in a long time, and it's a bit of a forgotten feature as
far as my own testing goes, so I have no idea what state it's in at the
moment.  This is the idea anyway.

There's nothing wrong with giving examples from other software.  That other
thing had devolved into a "why Ardour is better than Audacity" thread, and
frankly I just got tired of all the sniping back and forth on a totally
irrelevant topic.

Ok maybe I simply need to practice better :)

Well Ok then.. I was thinking of the visual tool Muse has (it calls it
the "Master Track")
