Router monitoringIs anybody using the monitor router function in Misterhouse? I've set it up for
my Draytek router as described in the code but only ever get 0 packets back. I checked with the Drayek syslog tool and data is available. I've set the following in mh.ini, which I think are correct. server_router_protocol=udp server_router_datatype=raw server_router_address=192.168.1.2 server_router_password=******* server_router_port=514 server_router_type=draytek As an alternative question does anyone use anything else if they monitor their router? If so what? I'm running Suse 11.1 with MH 2.105 regards, robin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. Re: Router monitoringRobin,
We are possibly both aiming to do something similar using MH... I've been using the module: Internet_connect_check.pl since day one, only to discover it isn't doing the complete job - it doesn't speak! I misunderstood that MH might actually tell me; should my connection to the outside world fail... Not so much...! So I've asked my coder friend Sean to have a look. After discussing what I want, he suggested we add code to my module: Jack.pl I think others would benefit, so suggested we modify the module instead. So I asked the MH group what they thought... The only person who replied had a good suggestion. A way to do three tests to determine where the disconnect happened. I was suggesting (earlier) that we make the IP address changeable. It is currently hard-coded to Google.com... If we changed it to the IP of my local router (I thought), I can do another test... I run my MH box on batteries. Also the cable modem; router/access point; ethernet switches; VoIP, and more... I use a CarNetix P2140 powersupply to convert the 24-volt battery voltage to a regulated 12 volts. My 24 volt batteries can actually be between zero and nearly 30 volts, depending on the charge and the presence of a charger, etc. I have the P2140's low-voltage cut-off set to 21 volts. Below that number, and the PS turns off. And during a recent heatwave, I discovered one afternoon that an overheat condition will also allow it shut itself off...! I lose telephone, and Internet. And I may or may not be serving, so I seek 100% uptime. So depending on what you're trying to get out of monitoring the router, and depending on how much coding Sean is willing to do... Another solution may be on the way... I can ping my router, and if it doesn't reply my 12 volt power may be down... What do you need to know about your router?? Suggestions welcomed. Jack :) Robin Edwards wrote: > As an alternative question does anyone use anything else if they monitor their > router? Re: Router monitoringIs the router's IP address correct? .2 seems like it might not be.
I've only seen them .1 or on some USRobotics ones .254. Just a guess. -- -=/>Thom ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. Re: Router monitoringJack, showing whether the line was up or down was not what I'd in mind however
it would be a bonus. When I looked at the hourly output from router monitor it displays number of packets. I just wanted to see what traffic was flowing through the router on an hourly basis. robin Jack Edin wrote: > Robin, > > We are possibly both aiming to do something similar using MH... > > I've been using the module: Internet_connect_check.pl since day one, > only to discover it isn't doing the complete job - it doesn't speak! > > I misunderstood that MH might actually tell me; should my connection to > the outside world fail... My MH machine is 192.168.1.1, router 192.168.1.2. Any other 'service' will be following them and my 'users' start at 192.168.1.100 as a dhcp range, so if I get problems the range of users and services are separate. I know the router can talk at that address as it is my default gateway and I installed the draytek utilities onto my windows laptop and could see the traffic from there. robin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial.
