Running on Debian Lenny

Hi guys,

I have successfully compiled OGo on Debian, thanks to Adam's help; now, I
am trying to run it.

Thing is, I have read through the WMOGAG, but cannot find *any* info there
on how should I start the services, what commands should I execute, etc.

Whatismore, there are many, many places (esp. in the "Installation"
and "Post-Installation Tasks & Basic Configuration" sections) which are
ambiguous or not clear.

I.e.:
 - the home dir of the "ogo" user should be "/var/lib/opengroupware.org",
but the WebServerREsources alias should point
   to "/usr/local/share/opengroupware.org-1.1/www"
 - where the hell did the "/OpenGroupware11.woa" address come from?
 - should the (web) resources be already installed somewhere, and if so,
   where?
 - how/what commands should I run to get OGo running? as which user?
 - the "ogo" user hasn't got access to the "ogo-webui-5.5" command - is
that something I should fix, or run the command as root (*shudders*)?

After running the "ogo-webui-5.5" command as root, I get:
/* --------------------------------------------------------------------
Missing Loginpage Content

This is probably due to a setup problem of your OGo server, most likely
OGo could not find the template files.

Contact your system administrator to resolve the issue
-------------------------------------------------------------------- */
I suppose it's related to the question about the web resources?

If you know of any decent how-to or installation and configuration guide
that sorts those ambiguities out, please do let me know. I do not want to
post every dumb question on this list, as there surely must be some
tutorials out there.

Cheers

Sorry for replying to myself, but still have some problems.

I managed to run OGo now, configure the database connection, patch the
sources to fix:
http://bugzilla.opengroupware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2019

...and enter OGo web ui. Jeez, is that fast, when confronted with eGW!..

Anywhoo, I am unable to set root password. Once I get into the user
preferences, click "edit password" and enter new password, I get:

Last Error:Password check failed

Console log pasted below.

Any hints? Am I missing something obvious? Google seems to not know
anything on that...

And one more thing - I want to have LDAP as the auth backend for OGo, as I
have googled a bit and seen it possible. If you guys have any pointers or
information on potential pitfalls, please give a hint.

Cheers

LDAP authenticate is covered in-depth in WMOGAG.  That was the first section I wrote.

Right. I have it up and running now. Thanks.

True;  I glossed over this since the section [at least originally]
assumed the admin was installing from packages.  Some of your
suggestions are valid but I don't intend for the chapter to become and
exhaustive reference for building from source on every available
distribution as that quickly becomes unmaintainable (witness just about
ever Wiki in the world....)  Someone building from source has to be
fairly well versed in their distributions conventions and tool chain -
there just isn't anyway around that.

I'm currently working on updating the Installation chapter so the
feedback is appreciated.  I'm going to provide the build 'recipe' in an
appendix in future versions of WMOGAG.

Correct, the resources are not installed in the groupware daemon's home
directory as they aren't 'data', but just resources.

>  - where the hell did the "/OpenGroupware11.woa" address come from?

It is an alias; I think this covered on pg. 20 of the current version
(section aliases)?  Is this not clear?

But it does need to be updated since the alias is version specific I
believe so it could be /OpenGroupware[10/11/54/55].woa

They get installed in the /usr/share/opengroupware.org-{version}/www
directory.

True, this is missing entirely.  Need to fix that.

The command is usually started by a service script like -
su - ${USER} -s /bin/bash -c "export PGCLIENTENCODING=
${PGCLIENTENCODING}; exec ${BIN} 2>>${LOGERR} 1>>${LOGOUT} &"

I'm not sure what you mean by "user hasn't got access to the ...
command".  Permissions on the installed binaries is usually -rwxr-xr-x.
You can create multiple users with different home directories (and thus
defaults) to easily run multiple instances of the service on one box.

The "Post-Installation Tasks & Basic Configuration" chapter should cover
most of the basic issues once you get the services running.  The
"Customization" chapter is also a good thing to go through before
putting a server into production as some this are more tedious to change
once a server has live data.  And if you are going to be using any
GroupDAV / CalDAV clients at least read the "Defaults" section of the
"ZideStore" chapter.
