Initially, the starter gave me the whir whir whir sound. I disassemble it and put bearing and stud mount on the ring gear and reassembled. I am still getting the same symptom again after reassembly. I pulled the solenoid/ armature cover off the side case. Apparently, the pin that pulls the internal mesh engagement gears is not sitting far enough inside the case. There is a significant gap between the exterior solenoid armature lever and the engagement pin which locks the splined gear assemble to the flywheel. Anybody have this problem and the fix?
BTW the Case went on fine without binding or issue. I put pressure on the assembly shim on the gear assembly to insure no parts falling off or out of position.
