RE: Sakai UX Group 2/6 Meeting Notes posted - next meeting 2/13If you have room on your agenda this week, I'd like to touch base with
this group regarding its tentative plans for Sakai 2.6. Sakai 2.5 is almost out the door, but feature freeze for Sakai 2.6 isn't all that far off now; early August is less than six months away, followed by code freeze in late September. Thanks. -peter Sakai Project Coordinator > -----Original Message----- > From: Allison Bloodworth [mailto:abloodworth@...] > Sent: Friday, February 08, 2008 12:23 AM > To: Sakai UI UI > Subject: Sakai UX Group 2/6 Meeting Notes posted - next meeting 2/13 > > Hi everyone, > > I posted the notes from the Sakai UX Group's most recent (2/6) weekly > meeting at: http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/confluence/display/UI/ > 2008-02-06+Agenda+and+Notes. Re: Sakai UX Group 2/6 Meeting Notes posted - next meeting 2/13Hey Peter,
We have an open agenda, http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/ confluence/display/UI/2008-02-13+Agenda+and+Notes, so feel free to add this to the list. I might suggest we start with some discussion of what you'd like to see from this group for Sakai 2.6. As a DG we don't normally have release deliverables but the group often talks about how why might get more involved and what is the best way to add value to releases. -Daphne On Feb 10, 2008, at 12:45 PM, Knoop, Peter wrote: > If you have room on your agenda this week, I'd like to touch base with > this group regarding its tentative plans for Sakai 2.6. Even if the this group's UX timelines are different than Sakai's release timelines, perhaps we can discuss where certain areas might align? Maybe its best in that sense to turn your suggestion on its head a bit, what is this group developing that might be ready to be turned into release deliverables? There's bound to be issues that arise in going from theory to implementation too, particularly given the variety of presentation technologies, and it would be great to have UX folks following through and collaborating on the decisions necessary to balance desired functionality with implementation limitations. For instance, the notes from the last meeting talk about paging. When does the group anticipate having a paging design pattern or widget or component (or whatever the appropriate term is these days :) developed to the point that it can be reviewed for use in Sakai? Such things don't have to be perfect. In fact it would be best not to wait until that point for you to start collaborating on Sakai development, given that implementation limitations mean tough choices will need to be made in order to move Sakai forward! Another example how this group can get involved might be the "low-hanging" fruit that is brought up from time to time. For instance, the Remove versus Delete discussion, which nicely illustrated that sometimes things aren't really low-hanging fruit, at least not in the sense that they are always easy to solve with just some cursory text changes. Is there interest in this group in following up on the suggestion to do user research to sort out topics like this? -peter > On Feb 10, 2008, at 12:45 PM, Knoop, Peter wrote: > > > If you have room on your agenda this week, I'd like to touch base with > this group regarding its tentative plans for Sakai 2.6. Re: Sakai UX Group 2/6 Meeting Notes posted - next meeting 2/13Hi everyone,
A reminder that the Sakai UX DG's meeting will be held in one hour! (Like that better than the half hour prior reminder I gave last time? :)) Please make sure to read (or at least skim) Michael's Requirements/ Product Management Process wiki page so we can talk about it at the meeting. I believe that Nathan Pearson, the newly hired Sakai UX Lead, will also be joining us for the first time, so be sure to come to the meeting to meet him!
