In the last few years advances in wearable computing, bioengineering,
wireless sensors networks, mobile devices and wireless communications
have paved the way to new definitions of e-health systems, moving from
original telemedicine systems to the integration of existent specialized
medical technologies with pervasive technologies. However, even more
work on this area is needed to obtain significant results in improving the
Quality of Life of patients and reducing medical errors and costs. First of
all, a strict interaction and cooperation among medical specialists and
ICT experts is necessary to define correct requirements fore-health
systems. Then, in order to effectively design and deploy reliable E-health
systems, a strong cooperation among several diverse research areas of
ICT is necessary (i.e., bioengineering, wearable sensors, wireless
communications, data fusion and processing, decision support systems
and others). This is fundamental to make E-health systems a reality,
satisfying main requirements of reliability and effectiveness both all the
involved perspectives perspective.

IREHSS aims to provide a forum for the interaction of experts belonging
to these different research areas, from wearable computing and
ubiquitous connectivity to context-awareness, sensor data fusion,
artificial
intelligence, expert systems, databases, security and privacy. The main
objective is to provide a forum for the interaction of these multiple areas
as an important chance to discuss and understand what aspects have to
be considered to provide effective E-health systems.

Authors are invited to submit papers presenting new research related to
E-health, not published or currently under review for another workshop,
conference, or journal.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Wearable and Implantable sensors for healthcare
- Wireless communications in healthcare
- Service and device discovery
- Data fusion and context elaboration
- Privacy and security issues in healthcare
- Middleware for e-health
- Energy Efficiency in health monitoring
- Artificial intelligence and expert systems
- User interface, usability and acceptability of e-health systems
- Healthcare applications for clinicians
- Home monitoring and ambient assisted applications for healthcare
- Power Management and energy-efficient design in Wireless Body Area
Networks
- System architecture and networking protocols for e-health systems
- Medical data analysis, measurements and management
- Modeling and performance evaluation
- Semantic Web in Healthcare
- Standards and frameworks

Paper submission for regular papers must be limited to 6 pages including
text, figures, references and appendices. They should be organized in
IEEE proceedings format, with a font size of at least 10pt. Papers
exceeding the maximum length of 6 pages will be automatically rejected.
The IEEE LaTeX and Microsoft Word templates, as well as related
information, can be found at the IEEE Computer Society website http://
www.computer.org/portal/site/cscps/index.jsp . The submission will be
entirely managed through EDAS (http://edas.info/N8548).

In line with the previous edition, there will be NO workshop-only
registration. Conference registration includes attendance to all WoWMoM
associated workshops, CD proceedings, etc. Moreover, each workshop
paper will need to have at least one author register at the FULL
conference rate. The workshop papers will be included in the main
WoWMoM proceedings and published by the IEEE. However, no-shows
of accepted papers at the workshop will result in those papers NOT being
included in the IEEE Digital Library.

Extended versions of selected papers with special merit will be
considered for a possible fast track publication on Pervasive and Mobile
Computing Journal (Elsevier). In addition, a possible free publication in
the Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation (JNER, http://
jneuroengrehab.com ) could be available in case of a selection of
special merit papers pertaining to the subject.

Next generation networks are expected to provide diverse services with enhanced QoS (e.g. seamless coverage and higher data rate) at affordable cost. Network planning and optimization will face many new
challenges arising from increased network scale, diverse services with different levels of QoS requirements, coexistence of heterogeneous networks, adoption of new communication and networking technologies. The purpose of ONPlan is to bring together researchers and engineers addressing all aspects of challenges in the network planning and optimization. - Prospective authors are invited to submit original papers not exceeding six pages, including text, figures, tables, and references. Papers must be written in English and in standard IEEE conference format. All submissions will be handled electronically through the EDAS system (http://edas.info), and must be in PDF format.

- Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings to be included in ACM/IEEE Digital Library (pending approval). There will be one best paper award for ONPlan2010. Selected papers will be further considered for possible publication in two special issues of Wiley Journal of Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing (WCMC) and International Journal of Autonomous and Adaptive Communications Systems (IJAACS).

Community Wireless in Canberra

Gday Canberrians,

I have recently moved from Adelaide to Canberra and have gained a
permanent job here.

I used to run the Air-Stream-Pasadena AP, and have been involved in the
community wireless phenomenon for years.. since about 2003.

I have contacted Daniel and have discussed a few things and we are
pretty intereted in getting things going here.

I am getting the bits and pieces of kit required to setup an AP in the
Campbell area ASAP. I am located on top of a hill behind Russell and
have pretty good LoS to Civic, Parliament House, National Muesuem,
Questacon, and the general lake area.

So if anyone is near by or just interested in setting something up.
Contact me!

Its really annoying not having a free community network here in Canberra!!!

Pervasive Healthcare constitutes one of the most promising and technically
challenging application domains for pervasive computing. It involves many
research areas, from wearable computing and ubiquitous connectivity to
context-awareness, sensor data fusion, artificial intelligence, expert
systems, medical analytics, databases and user-friendly interfaces. While
significant technological progress has been achieved in the past few years,
further work is needed to develop complete systems that can really improve
the patient quality of life and reduce medical errors and costs. First of
all, an efficient, reliable, and complete pervasive healthcare system must
satisfy both medical and patient requirements in terms of accuracy,
reliability, unobtrusiveness and user acceptance. To do this, a
multidisciplinary approach is necessary starting from the integration of
new
wearable technologies in a single Body Area Network to the design and
development of system architectures and middleware solutions able to
support
efficient and dependable services like continuous remote monitoring,
patient
tracking, and ambient assistance. The IEEE PerHealth workshop will provide
a
forum where researchers in the area of Pervasive Healthcare can discuss
current results in the field and possible hints for future work. Original
contributions are solicited related to all areas involved in the design of
pervasive healthcare systems.

The First Annual Workshop on Pervasive Networks for Emergency Management

Scope
-----

The events that took place on 11 September 2001 have brought to the
forefront the unique challenges that occur during a crisis, which require
effective sensing, communications and decision making with demanding time
constraints in highly dynamic environments. Pervasive systems address
these requirements by providing decision support to rescuers and evacuees,
guaranteeing communications and collecting information that is vital for
planning and organising the emergency operation. This workshop focuses on
pervasive networked sensing and decision making, both wired and wireless,
geared towards emergency management. PerNEM 2010 addresses leading edge
research in these areas through the use of sensing, communication,
decision support, simulation tools and modelling methods with focus on
system design, optimisation and experimental evaluation.

New applications and emerging communication technologies continue to
put greater demands on the Internet infrastructure. With the
increased use of mobile devices connected to the Internet, for
example, the need for content and service delivery architectures
that consider the unique challenges (e.g., bandwidth limitations and
costs, mobility, limited battery life) posed by mobile devices has
emerged. Similarly, with rapid advances in broadband at home
technology, there is an increased emphasis on realizing IPTV,
video-on-demand, and customized content delivery. These issues pose
a number of challenging design and performance problems at various
levels, including systems, networks, and protocols.

This one-day workshop aims at providing a highly interactive forum
where researchers, developers and practitioners from academia and
industry have the opportunity to present and discuss recent
research, developments and future directions regarding the design,
implementation, and evaluation of Internet-based architectures and
applications.

AAA-IDEA 2009 will continue the tradition of the previous AAA-IDEA
workshops, held at Orlando (2005) and Pisa (2006), that were
successful in providing a forum to exchange ideas and experiences
about the faced problems and to discuss innovative solutions.

Topics of interest to the workshop include, but are not limited to,
performance studies and novel approaches (architectures, algorithms,
and protocols) that aim to improve the user experience in accessing
emerging as well as traditional Internet-based services and
applications.

Submission and Publication

Authors are encouraged to submit full papers presenting
well-developed research results. Short papers that are more
speculative in nature, works-in-progress, and position papers are
also solicited. All submissions must describe original research, not
published or currently under review for another workshop,
conference, or journal. All submissions must be in printable PDF
format and written in English. Papers must be no longer than 15
pages (9 pages for short papers) in Springer LNICST format,
including all figures and references.

All paper submissions will be handled electronically through the
ASSYST system (http://assyst-online.org/).

The program committee will referee all papers. The papers to be
presented at the workshop will be selected on the basis of their
originality, technical merit, quality of presentation, and topical
relevance of their contents. All accepted papers will be published
by Springer in the series of ICST Lecture Notes (LNICST). The
authors of accepted papers must guarantee that their paper will be
presented at the workshop.

At least one author of each accepted paper must be registered for
the workshop in order for that paper to appear in the proceedings
and to be scheduled for presentation.
