Save As option?

I missed the discussion of this new option but, honestly, I don't
understand it from the tooltip and the Release Notes (which I edited
some, but still).

What is "current working directory"? For an average Windows user this
does not make much sense I guess. They just click icons. Can you
explain it in more functional terms?

The tooltip explains what happens for previously saved or not saved
documents. But both these are for this checkbox on, right? What if it
is off?

"current working directory" is the folder where the currently opened
document is stored.

checkbox _on_: (simulating the behavior of previous Inkscape versions)
the 'Save as...' dialog opens with the location of the currently opened
document.

> The tooltip explains what happens for previously saved or not saved

checkbox _off_: the 'Save as...' dialog now always opens with the 'last
used for saving a document' location.

Tooltip first version:
'When on, the "Save As ..." dialog uses the current working directory
for saving (in case the file was already saved before so that this
notion makes sense). Otherwise, the most recent "Save As ..." directory
is used.'

Tooltip current version:
'The "Save As ..." dialog uses the current working directory for saving
(if the file was previously saved). If not previously saved, the most
recent "Save As ..." directory is used.'

Still confusing?

Yes. What does it mean "if not previously saved" and "the most recent
"Save as..." directory"? The previous version was more clear.
Moreover, specifying the behavior when the user didn't use 'Save
as...' yet is unnecessary. It's logical that it will open in the
current working directory, and this information is not relevant to the
choice of enabling or disabling this option.

Better version of the tooltip:

"When this option is on, the "Save as..." dialog will always open in
the directory where the currently open document is. When it's off, it
will open in the directory where you last saved a file using that
dialog."

I second that. And please update the rel notes accordingly.

Agreed. Committed and Release Notes updated.

Please don't forget that we've reached string freeze last Saturday, and that the deadline for translations is next Tuesday. Is it possible to delay that kind of changes to the next release (0.47.1 or 0..48)? The current string is not very good, but it's not that bad. The risk is that some translators don't have time to translate it again...

Thanks!

I'm sorry, it was really necessary to change (and has already happened).

Consider this an extension to next Saturday. (Apparently I forgot that
it was Tuesday and only extended 1 day when I did)

Cheers,
Josh

When a string is wrong, or so confusing as to be almost wrong, I think
it is better for the users of localized versions to see the corrected
English string than the incorrect localized string translated from the
incorrect English.

While I agree that this is much clearer I would suggest slightly
different wording, so instead of:
"...the directory where the currently open document is."
as ending a sentence with 'is' doesn't feel right to me, either:
"...the directory of the currently open document."
or:
"...the directory where the currently open document is located."

I know this won't get changed now, but perhaps for a later release?

Regards,
Tom
