Saving my Inbox mail from loss when Evolution migrated to sqlite

Hi.  Please I need a little help.  I'm running debain unstable (wisely
or unwisely, I'm not sure right now).  I've been running unstable for a
few years with no problems because I like the latest software and feel I
know enough to handle the challenges of running unstable.

That said, recently I moved my mail folders from icedove to evolution (I
liked that it places the timezone in a reply when quoting).  Today I
upgrade the evolution packages and it seems that in switching the
folders to sqlite *all* of the mail that I had stored in my inbox (for
quite some time now) is gone.  I've shutdown and restarted evolution and
when I do, the Inbox folder shows a number of unread e-mails (487) but
when I click on the Inbox folder it shows nothing.  I'm hoping that all
of my mail is actually still there.  Please, any help in recovering my
mail, if possible, would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

BTW, I fired up icedove to write this e-mail and have shutdown evolution
to not cause any further problems.  Please help.  Thanks.

If I am not completely mistaken, the actual mail is still stored in
mbox files, isn't it? Wouldn't this folders.db happen to be just an
index file or so?

I would (after shutting down evolution and making a backup copy of
course) delete the folders.db (and probably also all the *index,
*cmeta and *summary files and all the other cruft and leave only the
actual mbox files in place. I just tried that for my
~/.evolution/mail/local and all the mail is still there.

thanks,

Johannes

Sadly, the Inbox mbox file's size (in ~/.evolution/mail/local) is zero.
I opened it (with vi) and there's nothing there.  I can pretty much kiss
all my mail goodbye, right?

It really doesn't matter though.  It's old mail and I probably would
never have gotten back to reading it.
