Scalability into the thousands and beyond...

Hi There,

I've been asked to look into Bugzilla for use by a wider team. We need to consider scaling the installation from the couple of hundred users now to 500 products (yes that is a separate insanity) and tens of thousands of users.

Is Bugzilla capable of handling this? While we know it can track bugs, for most of these products it will be tracking issues only.

What is the better scalability option- bearing in mind we are using a portal to point to bugzilla:

1) One Mother of an install with 500 products and kazillion bugs
2) Multiple medium sized installs (with up to 50 products per) and only tons of bugs.

If we go for option 2) and want to use a centralized reporting infrastructure (BOXI) is this possible? Has such been done before or will we trail blaze?

Thanks much for your assistance.

*Note: not a true geek, if there are machine specs I should know of, can you give me something I could hand to the smart server running people*

Sorry if you see this twice- realised I needed to be subscribed to both Nabble and mailing list to post...

Yes, perfectly capable. bugzilla.mozilla.org has tens of thousands of
users. (Or do you mean simultaneously?) and bugzilla.redhat.com has
hundreds of not thousands of components.

I'd go for this until it breaks. Which it shouldn't.

However, if you are going really big and have little in-house Bugzilla
experience, I recommend hiring a consultant. See bugzilla.org for a list.

I'd go for 1) as well.  Bugzilla will scale very well provided you give
it the hardware it needs. For those of us who run open-to-the-world bug
trackers, we know that Bugzilla can take the abuse of thousands of users
doing all kinds of weird stuff (some of them doing recursive wgets etc.)
