Scatterplot with dual axes: Can we add "set color"?

I have a scatterplot with dual axes.  How to add "set color"? That is, suppose the set color is gender; the male group in the scatterplot might be represented by triangle while the female group by circle.

To set the color by gender, specify color.interior(gender) on each ELEMENT:point statement.

But the problem is you’re going to have a very hard time figuring out which axis a point corresponds to by its exterior border color when its interior color differs for males vs. females.  I’d personally stick with different symbols for gender which is what your sentence seems to imply.
