Scout master's wife on committeeI am looking for some guidance outside of our circle of scouting and would like some input from other troops. I am trying to find out if there is a BSA policy regarding this and/or if anyone has run into any issues with this.
Let me give a little background. We have a husband and wife that were involved in our troop. He was an Assistant SM and she is on the committee. Our advancement chair has stepped down and asked her to take over. She gladly accepted the position and is learning the ropes just fine. After summer camp the committee voted to remove our current SM as we didn't feel he was able to fulfill the position. Our new SM is the husband of the now advancement chair. What I am wondering, is if anyone knows that this is not allowed and or if you have had any experience with such a situation. Thanks John Asst Committee Chair |

RE: Scout master's wife on committeeNo BSA rules that state family members holding these positions.
Advancement and SM roles bring shared in one family is fine. It may tax the family a lot depending on troop size and activity levels. Be careful of the Family Scouting Burnout here. Not a good idea is SM and Committee chair. Separation of church and state, however BSA does not stop that either. Tim Fraser T1459 Alpharetta, GA -----Original Message----- From: TMTUG@... Re: Scout master's wife on committeeJohn,
Given that your question is more of an Administrative issue, and not a TroopMaster Software related issue, I'd say you probably need to address the Group over at Boy-Scout-Talk Yahoo Group. This Group is basically for technical support for software related issues with TSI's advancement tracking software. Here's the link you need: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Boy-Scout-Talk/ See you there... Re: Scout master's wife on committeeI would avoid having them both as signers on the checking account. Other than that there should not be a problem with it. If you think there may be a problem because the Board of Review's job is to evaluate the effectivness of the program you can always ask that she not sit on the BOR's. Explain the conflict and I think two active scouters would understand. Our Advancment Chair does not usually sits on BOR's because of his schedule.

RE: Re: Scout master's wife on committeeWhen our Troop first started, the SM and Committee Chair were husband and
wife, and I think their dedication was the foundation of our success. We started with 6 Scouts and 7 years later we're pushing 100. No BSA prohibitions, and it's actually up to the Charter Organization as to whether they are happy with it, as the Charter Organization and COR are responsible for leadership.
