Dear Mr. Teske:

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for the "Employee Free Choice Act" (S. 1041). I appreciate hearing from you and welcome this opportunity to respond.

Like you, I believe it is important that American workers have the right to organize. I believe companies should work with employees to improve working conditions and must be held accountable for any unlawful actions taken against workers who participate in organizing efforts.

Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) introduced S. 1041 on March 29, 2007. I am a cosponsor of this legislation, which would enhance workers' ability to organize and increase penalties against employers that violate labor laws during organizing efforts. On June 26, 2007, the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 800, the companion legislation to S. 1041, was defeated by a vote of 51-48. Please know that I will keep your thoughts in mind should the Senate consider S. 1041 or H.R. 800 in the future.

Once again, thank you for writing. I hope you will continue to keep in touch on issues of importance to you. If you have any additional questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224-3841. Best regards.

Sincerely yours,

Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator
