Serious kmail bugOn the 11th March Ingo Kloecker wrote
<quote> a serious bug causing the corruption of binary attachments in KMail (cf. http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159093) was introduced with revision 780164 (on 2008-02-28) in kdepim3 proper resp. revision 771698 (on 2008-02-07) in kdepim3 enterprise. This bug has been fixed in kdepim3 proper (with revision 784040; yesterday) and in kdepim3 enterprise (with revision 782964; on 2008-03-06). The packagers/distributors have been asked to update their packages as soon as possible. </quote> This bug is still present in kdepim-kmail-3.5.9-4mdv2008.0 and I can see no bug report regarding it. Is this work in progress, or should a bug report be filed? This is a very serious bug. Anne |

Anyway if it has been fixed, as said into bug report, please fill a report and i'm sure Nicolas or Helio will fix it up. My 2€ cents. Angelo |

I can open the somefile.doc attachment in kword and print it from there, but if I save the file it is 0 bytes long. Apparently this is typical of what happens with this bug. > Anyway if it has been fixed, as said into bug report, please fill a report > and i'm sure Nicolas or Helio will fix it up. > The reason I asked is that I suspected it had been overlooked. I'll file a bug report. Anne |

Yesterday I needed to save several .doc attachments, and it was not possible. Every attachment saved as 0 bytes. I don't know what to believe now. I thought this morning's message meant that it was truly fixed. Anne |

Re: Serious kmail bugAnne Wilson wrote: > Yesterday I > needed to save several .doc attachments, and it was not possible. Every > attachment saved as 0 bytes. before you try to save attachment, create or move message to an empty mail folder. using knonqueor, open mail folder w/ kwrite or other text editor, do a cursor drag on attachment. create an empty file, open file w/ kwrite, center click to fill. close, rename as whatever.doc. i have used this trick with mozilla for text, hex, and other type files. just might work for you until bug is fixed. hth. -- g . |

It's fixed now, though, so I won't bother setting up an alternative. I tend to do that only when I want to test something. Anne |

Ah, I never upgraded KDE on any of my 2008.0 systems, so I still have the original release package kdepim-kmail-3.5.7-16, which does not have this bug apparently. Thanks for the warning Anne! I generally avoid KDE updates if all is working well. Had some back experiences before. Norm |

The good news is that the problem was announced as a warning to users as soon as the developers knew about it, and the fix announced to distro developers at the same time. Anne |
