Hi everyone.  I’m an OTC noob, but experienced with PXE and various thin OSes.  I can boot to OTC easily and quickly (way to go guys, this software is sooo easy!), but when I log in—either with AutoLogin or with a defined username and password—I get the following:

“Your Session only lasted less than 10 seconds.  If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace.  Try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix this problem.”

Does network storage need to somehow be configured?

I’m using the JAR installer on a Windows 2003 32-bit server.  I’m using diskless thinclients, converted PCs, and virtual machines.

Thanx,

David

Hi David,

this sounds like you have a corruption somewhere in $HOME/.gnome2 or
.gconf* . This can be caused by several reasons. Normally this error should
go away when you remove the $HOME on the server
(/opt/openthinclient/server/default/data/nfs/home/USERNAME-OR-MAC) after
backing up the files you may need again later.

But it sounds strange that you noticed this error with two different users.
Is your storage OK?

The internal nfs-server openthinclient uses does not need to be configured.

Regards,

Jörn

Okay, thanks Jörn.  That at least got me looking in the right direction.
For some reason the default NFS server of $(myip) was not being sent to the
thin client, so I changed it to the DNS name and everything started working
immediately.

Oh yes! This Problem occurs also when the NFS-Server itself is not
reachable. No NFS, no $HOME, no gnome. :-)

In case of doubt just do "cat /proc/cmdline" on a running client to have an
overview which essential settings the client received.
