I have been able to successfully install from sources gpsdrive 2.10 pre7
in openSUSE 11.1. The possibility to download maps from openstreet maps is for
me the most useful feature. However, it would be an extremely useful feature
the possibility to import from external osm file the map of an entire country.
I have tried to follow the tutorial for setting up gpsdrive for Ubuntu,
but externally loading an osm file into the database does not seem to work. So
I have to manually download from gpsdrive the maps I need, which is rather a
tedious process.

Have you tried to use
        mapnik-osm-updater.sh
asd root?
