Enjoy it Brian.  Pass on the opensource knowledge torch when you get a chance.

Already said it, but will remind you again so you won't get into frustrated situations.
 Remember Sidux is using Debian Sid, which has very frequent changes in the repository and the packages may be out of sync fairly frequently.  If such is the case, try again in a few hours or a day or two later.  Generally, I only do:

   apt-get update
   apt-get -d install package1 package2 package3
   apt-get    install package1 package2 package3

Which should also update those packages to the latest release if older release was already installed.  I have never had the nerve to try:

   apt-get update
   apt-get upgrade

so I don't recommend that for Debian Unstable.  Debian Testing may be a little tamer.  Debian Stable (Lenny for now) is probably fairly safe to do that.

If I feel my system is getting outdated, I get the latest Sidux release (I'm waiting for 200902 release) which is a recent Debian Unstable snapshot, already tested out.  I install it in a separate disk partition.  That way I can take my time to customize it to my heart's content while still have a bootable and fully functional Linux system as a backup.  It makes life much easier for me, hope the info helps others, too.
