After init of soundcard and before swap activation i have 90 seconds

I use mainly debian testing, 64bit version.

Unfortunately, I think adding a large swap partition (yours is 6GB)
can be a slow operation under Linux. Google for "slow swapon" and
you'll see several complaints.

One simple solution might be to try running "swapon" in the background
in your startup scripts. That's what I do on my (Ubuntu) laptop (which
is frequently rebooted and would pause for a significant amount of
time waiting on its 3GB swap file otherwise). Note that, on a Lenny
installation, "swapon" is run twice, in "/etc/init.d/checkroot.sh" and
in "/etc/init.d/mountall.sh", so make sure you make the change in the
right place.

Does this happen under specific conditions? I'm asking because my swap
is 5GB on a debian squeeze 64bit box, and it inits in an instant.

I didn't test modifying startup scripts yet but swapoff -a and then
swap on -a takes few seconds. Iam not surewhther this is the reason of
my problem because disk led in my laptop is off while this 90 second
pause.

Well, two points:

First, if you do these sorts of timings by doing "swapoff xxx"
followed by "swapon xxx" or by creating a new swapfile from scratch
and doing a "swapon xxx", then the "swapon" generally completes
instantly, since whatever information "swapon" wants to fiddle with is
already in memory. So, the question is whether your swap also
initializes instantly when it's first loaded on bootup.

Second, browsing the kernel code, it looks like the culprit *should*
be setup_swap_extents(), which walks the full list of swap blocks
checking for runs of blocks that are contiguous on disk. The trouble
is, this is only done for regular files, and block devices shouldn't
have any delay. That is, swapfiles should have a delay, swap
partitions should be almost instantaneous. (I can't easily test this
right now.)

Since this is at odds with what Kamil reported in his "dmesg.txt"
(where he was swapping on /dev/sda3), either (1) I'm wrong about the
kernel code, and it's something else that's sucking up all the time
for both swap partitions and files, (2) Kamil's "/dev/sda3" is
actually a plain file instead of the sda3 block device he thinks it
is, or (3) Kamil's problem is unrelated to the usual problem of slow
mounting of swap files.

I still do not know what is happening between module init and swap
activation. But i think debconf tries to give me a clue

atieventsd? It is not installed. I run aptitude purge ~c already. Is
it safe to delete it? I do not understand this LSB tags and so on

Sorry for multiple emails.

It looks like udev i blocking boot sequence. 22K svg image attached. I
have no idea how to speedup this.

Do you get something like

udev: missing sysfs features; please update the kernel or
disable the kernel's CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED option; udev may fail to
work correctly

in your boot messages or logs?

If so I had a similar delay and i fixed it recompiling a new kernel
with that option disabled.

No. I use standard kernel. I uninstalled ifplugd and realized that
net.agent is literally sleeping. I hit CTRL+C after initialization of
PCbeep  and my debian finished faster without any error consequences.
Both bootcharts attached.
