SmartCVS 7.0.1_1 File Filter Box

[spyrus]

At this release 7.0.1_1 with java 1.6 (sun-32bit or ibm-64bit) on Suse
9.3 Linux after a while i cannot write anything on File Filter box of
gui (not on menu) especially when i minimize the smartCVS and maximize
it to write to the File Filter Box. I need to restart smartCVS and work
again until i will minimize again the window or work in another window.

What is the *exact* Java version? What window manager you are using? Is the
problem always reproducible for you? Does only the File Filter box has this
problem or other UI parts as well?

Because I don't have the possibility to try it on SuSE, I've tried it on my
Ubuntu 8.10 system with Java 1.6.0_10 (and Gnome). Everything works fine, so I
think there may be a java-related problem with your system and not in general
with SmartCVS.

I did not have that issue with same Java and Suse on previous 7
relases, latest 6.x relase and 7.0.RCx releases so something
has changed in this release.

between 7.0.1_1 and 7.0.2.

I have installed 7.0.2 but the problem is still there.
Also another problem is that sometimes after checkin for example
the buttons never return back from the 'grayed out' state, so as
to further work with SmartCVS. In diff window the options sometimes
disappear. I have not change my java runtime and these problems
occured with 7.0.1_1

The default gui shell script smartcvs.sh
has the line: 'export AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit'
by default uncommented so it sets the environmental
variable. It should be commented out by default.


Yes it worked, by commenting out the line in my case.
This line of the script was not there in previous releases,
(check 6.0.9 script)

Unfortunately although the 'search' function works
my files where disappeared  from the window and again
the action buttons of the menu stayed grayed out just when requesting
refresh

After installing our applications on Ubuntu 8.10 and doing some development, I
noticed serious repaint issues. First, I've tried to disable all fancy
appearances options. It did not help. Then I switched back from the Nvidia to
the open source graphic driver and now everything works fine.

Maybe you also should try something like that.

So, it seems that is a problem with the smartcvs graphics and the
system driver of my Linux (by the way i have Nvidia card too, but i am
using a vesa driver of Suse and not the nvidia one).

I am reverting back to 6.0.9 then where i did not have any 'graphic'
problem. But will there be any fix or should i update my Linux
sometime in the future?

Finally i have found what is happening.
Both 6.0.9 and 7.0.2 are running on the same
Suse 9.3 Professional Linux system, with same
Java 1.6

For 7.0.2 i have to force the environment variable
AWT_TOOLKIT=XToolkit
and not AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit because it seems
that in my system MToolkit is used by default
which causes problem.

So in my opinion the awt_toolkit should be moved to
file smartcvs.vmoptions and or at least be commented out
(the line 'export AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit') by default
and let the user decide to use it or not or even
add a second commented-out line export 'AWT_TOOLKIT=XToolkit'

Either way it is jvm options and should be treated like
-Xms, -Xmx proposals on  file
