Some observationsHello,
I've been playing a lot lately and have some observations. 1. If I play as a Doppelganger Monk and switch to some kind of eating-attack monster like a Mind Flayer, it spoils my vegetarian conduct. Does this make sense? In fact I thought it would be ok for me to poly into another creature to eat meat and prevent starving to death. But no that's bad too. Doesn't quite seem right. 2. I found a bunch of pills, phials, and bandages lying around. Presumably a gelatinous cube ate the leather bag and its contents spilled out. I'm sure this was never intended as there is no code for the latter tools and it just says "I don't know how to use that" or some such. But the pills... Now that is a find, because some of them can give wishes. And there are quite a lot of pills in a typical medkit. Is this intended behavior? 3. IMO a flying character should be able to land with > and take off again with <. Sort of like blessed potion of levitation. Also any character standing on a pit square should be allowed to > and climb down into it. Or jump if you insist but as it is now, you must move away and back again. Maybe several times if you escape the trap well. Very annoying when you just want to climb down and get the stuff out of the pit. 4. Hate to say it but the game gets dull after a while. I usually play to max level 20 (celibate, no wishes) and then escape. By that time I've got hundreds of pounds of gems, many artifacts, and about as much gold as I can carry. Slash'EM is much better than Nethack in this mode of play partly because it includes so many more quests and special levels. BTW I would try out Phlegethon if you provide a Windows binary. Can't be bothered to compile it unless you make it work with M$ Visual Studio 2002. Brett ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more? This behaviour is inherited from vanilla NetHack. Seems reasonable enough to me. > 2. This is all tied up with a number of vanilla bugs to do with pits eg., C343-12. There's probably not much point looking at it until these fixes are integrated. > 4. Of course, the point of the game isn't to collect either gems or gold or even useless artifacts. > BTW I would try out Phlegethon if you provide a Windows binary. As and when I ever get my act together and produce something that's worth testing more widely, I will of course make binaries available for the platforms I deal with (including MS-Windows). Re: Some observationsHi Ali,
It seems like there should be a solution for the Doppelganger Monk to prevent starvation and keep good conduct. In this situation I tried many things e.g. I thought a rock mole could eat rocks. But no that doesn't work either. Surely I missed a possibility or two? > the point of the game isn't to collect either gems or gold or even useless artifacts Right the point of any game is to have fun, which is a personal matter. Each person finds fun in their own way on a given day, and Slash'EM has enough variety to be fun a lot of the time. I've ascended many times but typically the most fun part of the game for me is the early part, with limited resources to solve the various problems encountered. In the later game characters have similar equipment, stats, resistances, etc. so the variety is greatly diminished. Weapons/etc - It's also a really nice form to be in just for the AC and innate passwall. -- ICQ: 116080581 | Jabber: azhrarn@... Tinker bug?Hi,
Is it intended behavior for the Tinker technique to be usable at any time, no waiting required? It seems overly powerful for this. But t_timeout is never changed from its default of 0 in the case for T_TINKER in the techeffects function. We might also consider just making it take longer to work on the piece if it seems overly powerful at present.
