HI ALL:
In the current issue of Western Birds there is this article:

Regional Phenotypic Variation in the Sooty Grouse by Michael A. Schroeder
et al. Western Birds: 40:152-154, 2009.

Basically the author found that male Sooty Grouse in the northern part of
their range (southeast Alaska and north-coastal British Columbia) have red
apteria (air sacs) as apposed to yellow in the rest of the species' range.
So basically we have two species of grouse, that at the extreme ends of
their ranges (northern part in Sooty and the southern part in Dusky) that
look alike!

sincerely
