Splitting artistsWhile entereing some Bach CDs, I found that the Barry Davis had relationships for oboe performance on many releases, and a relationship as a member of the band Something for Rockets. After checking, I added a new Barry Davis (drummer, Something for Rockets), and added a note (Classical oboeist) to the existing entry, and then added a relationship for the new Barry Davis as a member of Something for Rockets.
Now, I get notes from the Modbot that Barry Davis is a "deleted artist", and on checking, there's still only one Barry Davis, who is still both the oboeist and the drummer in a group. A similar thing has happened with Julian Baker, who's either a Hip-Hop artist or a horn player. The new artist, who I'd made the hip-hop bloke, is a deleted artist. What's going on? Peter |

Oboe player to the punker Barry Davis without realizing it was the wrong person (oops), I've created a new artist for the drummer, and changed the something for rockets AR to point to the new artist. What exactly went wrong for you, I don't know... _______________________________________________ MusicBrainz-users mailing list MusicBrainz-users@... http://lists.musicbrainz.org/mailman/listinfo/musicbrainz-users |

I believe there is a bot which automatically and periodically deletes Artists which don't have any Release and aren't AR'ed to something. Maybe this bot is too intelligent and it re-links to the oldest homonym and then destroys the new one? -- Frederic Da Vitoria (davitof) Membre de l'April - « promouvoir et défendre le logiciel libre » - http://www.april.org _______________________________________________ MusicBrainz-users mailing list MusicBrainz-users@... http://lists.musicbrainz.org/mailman/listinfo/musicbrainz-users |

Re: Splitting artistsAh, you might have something there. I added another chap called Carl Pini, then found that I couldn't add a relationship for him because the instrument he plays isn't in the instrument list. I checked after reading the above message, and I find he's now a deleted artist as well. The thing about the other two is that there were open edits assigning relationships to the new artists, which were rejected because the artists were deleted before the edits were applied. Open edits should be checked before an artist is deleted. Peter |

I guess this used to work, for example there are several Martin in the database, the last was added on 2008-12-03. Maybe a bug in one of the new server releases? -- Frederic Da Vitoria (davitof) Membre de l'April - « promouvoir et défendre le logiciel libre » - http://www.april.org _______________________________________________ MusicBrainz-users mailing list MusicBrainz-users@... http://lists.musicbrainz.org/mailman/listinfo/musicbrainz-users |
