I used to have a flash unit that had a primary tilt-swivel on top and a small secondary infill flash next to the IR sensor. I blew it years ago but I have been looking for one ever since. I think it was a Sunpak or Vivitar or Carrena or something. Anyone know? It took the best shots and I didn't need any fancy extra attachments or cords or anything to get both the bounce and direct light in a good proportion.

Terry, I am interested in your Vivitar 285 -- is it the HV model or
an older one?

Hi Kyle,

I have a Metz 45CL-4 that I picked up last year or so that does just
what you mentioned.  It doesn't have the Pentax module, but I'm not
concerned about that as it's purpose is to be a fairly powerful
manual flash.  Not as powerful as the Metz 60, but big, heavy and
very sturdy nevertheless.  It came with a couple of the 5-cell
battery inserts plus an extra one that accepts NIHM batteries.

Regards,

Greg

The newer 285's are known to be quite dodgy in build quality. The older
ones are great.

Hi KK,

I've sort of heard something along that line.  I guess it's a new
manufacturer that took over the Vivitar line.  I'm really not all
that concerned because the two-year warranty that Terry gives, along
with the extra one-year coverage from my Credit Card should do just
nicely :-) :-)

Regards,

Greg

Greg

A couple of years ago, Vivitar began manufacturing the 285's again. But,
the quality control in the Chinese factories was horrendous. So much so,
that Vivitar discontinued them again. Sakar (bought out Vivitar) along with
Gadget Infinity is producing them again. In China. I've heard and read
numerous reports that the newer models are no better. Just don't rely on it for an
important shoot. Too bad, because the older units are very good. I have two
of them, that are still running like new. I hope yours work out well. Are
you aware of the new LP 120 units?

Terry,

What Bronica stuff do you have?  I know someone who's looking for specific
stuff, plus I have an SQ system that needs the odd bit.

I might also be interested in the 500/8 Tamron cat.  It's the only mirror
lens I've ever used that I actually liked.

Depending on price the 35/2.8 and 24/2.8 might be of interest too.

Jim
