Status of the translations-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1 Hi there, I just went through all projects at http://drupal.org/project/translations and I have to say that many of the translations are in a very sad state. Often, there are only releases for outdated Drupal versions and there have been a lot of translations projects created that do not have any releases at all. I've made issues at all the projects that are affected by the latter and hope that we can fix this. Otherwise we'll have to unpublish them. If there are difficulties with CVS etc, you can always ask for help either on this list, though the webmaster queue, or you can catch me in IRC. Re: Status of the translationsIMHO we need to centralice efforts, translation community is not as big as the coders.
In Spanish I see that problem all days, there is not a clear way to contribute, or at least people don't see it as serious, sustainable or perhaps viable (is still a pain in the neck). We need to translate core, we also have to spend a lot of time maintaining translation servers. There are A LOT of translations servers, can't we just join forces to maintain a big one and let translators do their job? I have same problem at l10n.drupal-contrib.org, I can only spend a couple of hours(a month) to keep it up & running, would like to contribute translation instead... Blessings! I tend to agree, it doesn't make sense if every translation team runs its own server. I will see that we can install such a server on drupal.org (which has been planned for quite a while). That is unfortunate, feel free to ping me about reviews for any such issues any time. I really want to get this deployed before DrupalCon Paris. Re: Status of the translationsAlso,
I fell that, the documentation about localization is too vague, incomplete and scattered. I propose a clear documentation regarding localization. And also, centralized localization server (inside drupal.org) is must if we want to get more contributions. Now, it is pain in the ass to start a localization project and create a working release. -Shankar On Mon, Jul 20, 2009 at 12:53 PM, Gerhard Killesreiter<gerhard@...> wrote: > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > jakub@... schrieb: >>> In Spanish I see that problem all days, there is not a clear way to >>> contribute, or at least people don't see it as serious, sustainable or >> >> Agreed. >> >>> perhaps viable (is still a pain in the neck). Maybe you can ask some questions and the others come up with the answers and we then put the result into the documentation.
