Strange X problem on 4000/60

[Raleigh Apple]

I've recently aquired a 4000/60, getting it to boot from my linux box
was painful, but I have come across a problem noone else has ever had,
judging by my responses on irc.

I've gotten the system up and mostly working. X comes up, but the
fonts are backwards. The text is correctly formatted, which means that
I can't just use a mirror.

Any ideas?
