Strange colours on print border

Hello,

with current kubuntu 9.10 I have a problem printing borderless on a
10x15cm sheet. Load this photograph of a printout for an example
http://hey-you-freaks.de/border.JPG

On the printout you can see two times the same part of an image. One
was placed in the middle of the sheet and the other next to a border.
The one at the border gets brighter at the right and some colors are
missing.
What is wrong here?!

I'm sure it worked before with an older ubuntu release.

Printing has been done with GIMP 2.6.7, Gutenprint plugin on an Epson
DX4200 model.
Gutrenprint version is 5.2.4

Can anybody help?

Thanks!!
sebastian

I've reported the same problem with Epson R285, but it's present only
with 5760x2880 res. Some time ago it was fixed for lower resolutions and
up to 2880x2880 works fine with R285.

That's at the *bottom* of the page, correct?

Can you try this to see if it improves matters?  Check in both
borderless and non-borderless mode, both with and without this
change.

I've reported the same problem with Epson R285, but it's present
only with 5760x2880 res. Some time ago it was fixed for lower

It may be the same problem, but unfortunately it seems to be tricky to
get right in all cases.

That output doesn't look like 5760x2880 -- it's too heavily banded for that.

I agree, but mine look very similar, just bands are smaller.
It's not problem with color prints, because then I use 2880 res, but to
get best black only quality 5760 is needed. Takes really long to print
but quality and detail are great. Just last few cm are weird.

Perhaps you might want to try the same change (changing Yes to Full in
the borderless tag) to model_81.xml?

Were you printing borderless or not?

OK, I'll try this tonight. And yes, I'm printing with borderless.

Wait... not really!

What indeed works is to move the whole picture a few milimeters away
from the bottom border. Then the border is sharp and clear.

The following print was made first with the image placed directly to
the bottom border in borderless mode. Anyway there is some space to
the bottom that should not be there.
The secod image is placed only a few milimeters higher as you can see
and it looks good.

Yes, it's at the bottom

Tried this. Problem is the same in both modes.

But reducing the resolution from 5760x1440 to 1440x1440 DPI worked.

Hope this information helps...
