Stretching to the bottom

I'm playing with the design of Fusion Authority and I'm getting something I like on the left hand side. The left hand side is a table cell holding some rounded corner scripts with a navigation. In order to have a stripe going right down the entire left hand side I have a absolute div set at the end of the html. It creates the stripe, positions it at 0top and 25 left with 100% height. This actually doesn't stretch the 100% height. Neither the page height or the box height. Actually, the 100% height stretches the length of a single page and vanishes when I scroll down.
Can anyone point me to a 'better' way to do this?

Basically a left hand stripe with rounded pods containing content.

Thanks

Arrrg! What I described works in Firefox but BLOWS in IE. Back to the
drawing board. :(
Something tells me that the CSS rounded borders is not going to work nested
in IE.

Due to a problem with IE I've moved the test to
http://www.fusionauthority.com/index_test.htm. Any help is appreciated and
something tells me that this test will go straight to full CSS positioning
rather than the current tables layout.
Fun

I need Sandy's CSS class!
