I need to use features of ModelMBean and make some of our available POJO classes into a MBean but some of their fields are of type another class. Can we use the features of OpenMBean in Model MBean?

my attributes are shown as Unavailable and cannot be changed

Hello
I had a simple example to getting start with JMX using Standard MBean with some basic attributes and everything was alright but now I have created a Model MBean with two attributes of type String and Integer. All the attributes and operations are shown and even my operation is working fine but those attributes' values are shown as Unavailable and I can't change them.

both attributes are readable and writable (the getter and setter fields are already set and in MBeanAttributeInfo I set the readable and writable as true) but the value in text-box in jconsole is disabled and no change is applied.

Can anybody help me out of this

Distribute your Java app in India through Samsung Fun Club

Through its SMI Program (http://innovator.samsungmobile.com), Samsung seems to be launching a Java App Store in India – as part of the Samsung Fun Club (http://in.samsungmobile.com/).
This might probably be the first time Samsung phone users in India will be able to download Java apps at the same place they go for their wallpaper, ring-tones and other mobile content – Usually though Samsung phones support Java, its users never got to download Java apps through them.

This was apparently announced to the core members of SMI in a recent meeting (http://www.telecomtiger.com/fullstory.aspx?storyid=7711&passfrom=vasstory§ion=S182) that happened recently.

Through a core member that attended this meeting, I heard that they are looking for
• J2ME-based application
• Small file size for easy download over the GPRS network
• Free , with no cost to the consumer (trial/lite versions seem acceptable)
• Content relevant to an Indian audience

I guess it is not restricted to core members alone. Anyone who has an application that fits in with the criteria above should be able to submit. Looks like they will close the submissions by 04-December, since they plan to work closely with every developer and even test all apps.

Some questions that popped in my mind and possible answers too ;D

• Is this same as Samsung Application Store? (www.samsungapps.com)
I guess NO. Samsung Application Store distributes Symbian and Windows Mobile content, No Java ME at all there! This SFC thing should be for J2ME apps!

• Why only India?
Probably the Indian teams are doing it as a trial launch.

• Why not paid applications?
No answer to this – but they seem OK with Trial / Lite versions. So we can always redirect the user to our site and make them buy

When I run the program ImageUtil1.java using JRE 1.6 ,I am getting a thumb image with good quality.
But If I change the jre version to 1.5 then the quality of the thumb image is not good.

Java over Remote X

I am running java over remote X and seeing some performance issues, basically tearing. I read a thread on this forum related to the same subject and also the troubleshooting guiding from sun where it says pmoffscreen=false can solve some of the rendering problems. I also read the post from Chet on smooth animations where a solution was posted for windows to synch with vertical retrace.

I would like to understand the following techincal details for remote X when pmoffscreen = false.

1. If we do alphacompositing or antiaaliasing stuff, is the image from X server to client copied over.
2. If pmoffscreen = false is it safe to assume the image is residing on system memory and there is no hardware acceleration involved. If this is the case, is the image residing on the system memory at the server side?
3. I am assuming there is no double buffering when offscreen=false. Am i correct?

I dont see any tearing with pmoffscreen = true, except that it is too slow (i know it is because of network transfer of data). When pmoffscreen=true, do we always synch with the vertical trace by default when we blit or is it the double buffering i.e eliminating the tearing?

Any insight on the technical details is greatly appreciated.

JNDI API for Authentication sample code for AD server from AIX OS ?

Hello All,
I have basic question on JNDI, I am new to the JNDI API. We have the requirement of the Authenticate the user credentails enterd by user on the on the Application Login Page , which runs on to the Tomcat Application server of AIX OS. LDAP server is Microsoft AD server.
1) Will JNDI API Will be the best solution ?
2) Can some one provide me the sample code for the same ?
I shpuld only get the return interms of True or false from LDAP server that user is authenticated or not . Kindly help me on aboce requirements... Thanks in Advance!

Hi,
I am new to the javax.sound package. Need some help.
I am using the following code to get a Clip reference.
Clip clip = AudioSystem.getClip();

This works fine on Windows. But when I run it on our Unix (Sun OS) server, I get the following exception:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: No line matching interface Clip supporting format PCM_SIGNED unknown sample rate, 16 bit, stereo, 4 bytes/frame, big-endian is supported.
at javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getLine(AudioSystem.java:459)
at javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getClip(AudioSystem.java:503)......

I went thru the Javadocs and learnt that this code would search for a Mixer implementation first and then generates the Line (Clip). I am using the same JRE version (1.6.0_12) for both the environments, meaning, the same following Sun implementation:
com.sun.media.sound package in jre/lib/rt.jar

I also tried getting the MixerInfo array explicitly using the following:
Mixer.Info[] mixerInfoArray = AudioSystem.getMixerInfo();

This should return some 9 implementations from the above mentioned package (does so on Windows).
But I get an array of length zero (0) on the Unix server.

I even tried restricting the search by providing the following in jre/lib/sound.properties:
javax.sound.sampled.Clip = com.sun.media.sound.DirectAudioDeviceProvider#DirectClip

My actual aim is to calculate the duration of .wav file. But nothing seems to be working on Unix.
Please help.

I've been struggling with this, but have found some more information. I am using JavaHelp 2.0.05. I found that with the version 2 release, modifying the icon is no longer supported: "[i]Icon in Title Bar is [b]not customizable[/b] in JavaHelp 2.0[/i]" -- http://www.writersua.com/articles/javahelp/index.html

Is this true, or is there just a way that is not documented?

In addition, when I attempt to modify the icon used for a view by using the <image> tag, it does not work. It actually causes a problem where that view is no longer visible at all unless I remove the <image> tag.

registrar.lookup <-> out.writeObject() vs registrar.lookup<->out.writebyte => OptionalDataException

Hi,
Till now I can have a server java app that writes a serializable (proxy) class to
a socket using writeObject() and a client app getting that serializable object
using an http server for . class and registrar.lookup to get the serializable
proxy object and even can invoke methods on that object after reconstruction.

So, the pair: registrar.lookup <-> out.writeObject() works fine!

Now, i would like to replace the server side code: out.writeObject() by writing
it object to a file first and then read the file byte by byte and send those
bytes through the socket. Client must be able to reconstruct object using registrar.lookup as usually.

When I try this second approach client fires the OptionalDataException
exception in java.io.ObjectInputStream.readObject0(). I cant find out why.

Please, could you help me on this?

Could be, don't really know. I don't have the abillity to test this out, but we now have more surveillance of the jvm status of the webapps and making manual restarts when memory becomes too close to max. After this we haven't had any issues at all.

It seamed like reggie ran out of thread's trying to notify (don't know how many it used), and this caused a big queue of jobs and in that q there where other jobs that would timeout as well witch led to new services wouldn't get the serviceId and stuff like that.

JDMK is not available for free. There are per developer and per runtime deployment fees.
Please contact your Sun sales representative for details on the licensing scheme.

Creating a new graphics context for every rendering cycle is the preferred
way actually, but it is supposed to work either way, so it's a bug.

How can I disable Java Quick Starter if I use Java Access Bridge and JAWS

Hi,

Every time I try to disable Java Quick Starter via the Java control panel,
my computer is hang and I must reboot my computer before I can work with my
computer again.

I have tried to select the advanced tab in the Java control panel, but I can
not find the option to disable the Java Quick Starter. I have observed that
some Java-applications is not working correctly with the latest version of
Java Access bridge when I have activated Java Quick Starter.

I using JAWS 9 and 10, and Java 6 Update 14.

I hope some of the peoples of this mailing list have a solution!

I first thought this was a bug in the 1.6.0.14 plugin. But perhaps it is just that the Graphics2D object retrieved from a Canvas object is volatile. Although I have never seen a Graphics2D object to be volatile except when it was retrieved from a BufferStrategy.

This is what I see.

When I dragged an applet to the desktop, I would lose my Canvas Graphics2D object. In other words when I init my Canvas:

canvasGraphic = (Graphics2D)this.getGraphics(); // this is a Canvas

gives me back a volitile canvasGraphic. When I drag the applet to the desktop, canvasGraphics is no longer valid. It's not null -- just not valid. I cannot use it to draw with. The applet still responds to paint(Graphics g) calls because g is a new Graphics object.

So when I redraw my pixel buffer, I have to get the canvasGraphics object each time to be sure that it is still valid like this:

I call this method now for every frame I draw when the user pans/tilts/zooms.

FWIW, I followed Peter's directions exactly with the following results:
1. JAWS 10 -- no dice. Evidently the Windows DLL is not being loaded by JAWS.
2. I was able to duplicate Peter's results using NVDA.

I have already reported this issue to Freedom Scientific as it is probably an easy fix if JAWS is simply not seeing the DLL.

To use it with 64-bit Vista, you will need to do a "by hand" installation, as 64-bit Vista has introduced a pair of new directories for 32-bit files that the existing installer doesn't know about. You must also use the 32-bit Java runtime (which means your Java applications & the runtime itself will be limited to 2GB of addressable memory). However, all of the other benefits of a 64-bit OS are available to you - e.g. for the other application you want to run.

Here are the steps:

1. Download and install a 32-bit version of the Java runtime. This will work in 64-bit Windows, as do most 32-bit applications. Note that it will be installed not into your "Program Files" directory, but into 64-bit Vista's "Program Files (x86)" directory.
2. Download the "Access Bridge 2.0.1 Manual Install (.zip)" - one of the two options you get after following the link "Download Java Access Bridge 2.0.1" at http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/accessibility/accessbridge/
3. Follow the "By hand" instructions at http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/accessibility/accessbridge/2.0.1/docs/setup.html
4. As to whether your specific AT will support Java in this fashion on 64-bit Vista - that is a question for the AT vendors. I have tested it with NVDA version 0.6p3.2 (latest released version as of today), and NVDA reads the contents of apps accessible Java apps just fine - just as it does on 32-bit Windows.

I invite folks on the list who have access to a 64-bit Windows OS to give these instructions a try and report back.

To anticipate the next question... yes, we are looking at doing an update of the Java Access Bridge to update the installer for things like 64-bit Windows, as well as other issues. I don't have anything more specific to say about times/dates at this time.

Just an FYI on this topic. I am actively working with a 64-bit workstation user on the appropriate modifications for the window-Eyes java access solution, WE4Java. Hope is to include this support in the next WE4Java release coming out in the next couple of weeks.

I have tested it with NVDA version 0.6p3.2 (latest released version as of today), and NVDA reads the contents of apps accessible Java apps just fine - just as it does on 32-bit Windows.

I invite folks on the list who have access to a 64-bit Windows OS to give these instructions a try and report back.

To anticipate the next question... yes, we are looking at doing an update of the Java Access Bridge to update the installer for things like 64-bit Windows, as well as other issues. I don't have anything more specific to say about times/dates at this time.

A disappointing and frustrating outcome for me to say the least.

Hopefully one day Sun in it’s wisdom will release a 64 bit version of the Access Bridge.

Download and install a 32-bit version of the Java runtime. This will work in 64-bit Windows, as do most 32-bit applications. Note that it will be installed not into your "Program Files" directory, but into 64-bit Vista's "Program Files (x86)" directory.
Download the "Access Bridge 2.0.1 Manual Install (.zip)" - one of the two options you get after following the link "Download Java Access Bridge 2.0.1" at http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/accessibility/accessbridge/
Follow the "By hand" instructions at http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/accessibility/accessbridge/2.0.1/docs/setup.html
Copy the three DLL files "JavaAccessBridge.DLL", "JAWTAccessBridge.DLL", and "WindowsAccessBridge.DLL" from the Access Bridge installerFiles directory into your new for 64-bit Vista Windows\SysWOW64 directory. This is where 64-bit Vista needs to have 32-bit DLLs (for most people the full path will be "C:\Windows\SysWOW65").
Modify your PATH so that it ends with the Windows\SysWOW64 directory (Start Menu-> Computer -> Properties -> Advanced system settings -> Environment Variables -> System Variables -> PATH to add the string ";%SystemRoot%\sysWow64" to the end of the existing PATH (or at a minimum, that it appears after the entry for ""%SystemRoot%\system32" in your path).

The size you are seeing is in always user space coordinates.
If you examine the transform (Graphics2D.getTransform()) you'll see
that there's a scale from user coordinates to device resolution.
You'll also notice that line from 0,0 to 600, 480 fully crosses
the printable area of the page, showing that this is working properly.

Yes, java.rmi.server.codebase is a property used by the RMI/Jini mechanisms
through the RMIClassLoaderSPI to cause MarshalledObject() use by RMI/Jini to
attach the indicated URLs as the annotations for "server" exported objects.

The client's URLClassLoader (or like class loader implementation per
RMIClassLoaderSPI) use (through the implementation details in RMI/Jini
endpoint/invocation layer activities) will use those annotations to download and
resolve classes.

It seems that client can not receive
-Djava.rmi.server.codebase=http://localhost:8080/
during launch

Only the server needs that.

Any way to see the codebase of an object?

Hi
Is there any way to print or see the codebase of an object that is about to be
serialized to a socket?

This is because I have a client server and server sends an object throught the
socket to client and if the .class of that object does not exists on client side
the client throws an exception of java.lang.ClassNotFoundException.

I have the jini web server running and the www dir has the .class. If i try to
access the .class through web browser there is no problem. The browser asks
to save the file.

It seems that the object do not carries a valid codebase?!

PS: Both client and server are running on the same machine for now. When
running client and server i pass the following:

-Djava.rmi.server.codebase=http://127.0.0.1:8080/
