Support for Canon MF4320d

Hi,

I'm wondering if pixma backend might support the scanner part of the
newish Canon MF43x0d devices (x ranging from 2 to 5, depending on
having an automatic document feeding (3 and 5) and/or additional fax
module (4 and 5)).

The list of supported devices already sports MF412x as well as MF4270,
which all look pretty similar to the new products, in spec as well as
optically.

Does anybody else have such a device to test? Do you think it'd be
worth a try (given I have decent C programming skills, but not much
time). The hardware seems to have a pretty high
bang-for-the-bucks-ratio, but I'm hesitant as I need Linux support
(and much prefer OSS drivers).

Regards

Markus Wanner

Seems that most pixma machines have similar protocols to already
supported devices. The author of the backend is also quite quick to
support new machines. So, chances are good that it will work with
minimal effort. However, there is no way to know for sure unless
someone buys one and tests it. It could be completely different.

Indeed, the pixma protocol is declined into about 5 to 10 different
flavours, fitting more than 50 different Pixma models, and we have for
now implemented in the pixma backend, all the ones that we have
encountered. Looks like new models still implement the same ones, as
seen recently for the new MP640. Also, few protocol evolutions have been
seen for recent Pixma models.
So adding a new model requires generally to take a look at its Windows
Snoop trace, and declare it according to the protocol used. Some tweaks
may be needed if necessary.
As allan stated, there's great chance that this model can be easily
supported by the pixma backend, simply contact the list to get help
around that, and we'll see what is to be done.

hp psc 1500

Hi everybody,

I compiled sane-backends (latest version) on my router (Asus Wl500gP). Everything works fine. MP830 works without any problem. Now I also have a hp psc 1500 connected but it does not work. I installed hplip from ipk-package.
sane-find-scanner gives the right output, but scanimage -L says, no scanner detected.

Any idea?

Regards
Oliver
