Sustaining innovations and new technologies for managing long-term conditions
Thursday 9 July 2009, 09.30am-4.15pm, London

Dear Jean

With the Department of Health focus on how to integrate health and social care working and encourage support for self-care, there is an increasing role for innovation and assistive technologies to support this and create better health outcomes for those with long-term conditions. However, there continue to be concerns around how to engage health professionals, how to ensure that patients can be recruited and retained to use new systems, and how to invest in technology in a sustainable way. This conference will address your key concerns around the future of technology for managing long-term conditions.

We are pleased to announce our keynote speaker.

  • Professor James Barlow, Chair in Technology and Innovation Management, Imperial College London

Case studies
Practical case studies will illustrate ways of engaging patients and health professionals with innovation.

  • Encouraging patients to self-monitor their conditions
  • Supporting people with long-term conditions to use technology

Speakers
Our speakers include the following.

  • Dr Kevin Doughty, Consultant and Deputy Director CUHtec, University of York, on sustainable ways of harnessing technology.
  • Wendy Hardicker, Assistant Director, Out of Hospital Care, NHS Norfolk, on commissioning and embracing health care technology.
  • Sonia Milburn, Project Manager for Telehealth, and Chris Webb, Specialist and Clinical Equipment Services Manager, Southampton City Primary Care Trust, on commissioning telehealth for long-term conditions.
