Switching from GPG v1.x to v2.x

All,

I have been considering making the switch from GPG v1.4.9 to v2.0.11 on my MacBook Pro now that a universal binary appears to be available. I have a few questions, though.

1. I saw at least one report of a machine locking up after installation. Are others using this binary with no problem? Is this an isolated instance?

2. I saw a couple of references to an updated beta preference pane which would work with GPG v2.x and allow you to switch back and forth between v1.x and v2.x. I am unable to find it, though. Can someone please point me to the proper place?

3. I do remember seeing the updated beta preference pane somewhere, but it seems to me that it had a lower version number than the current version (v1.2.2, I believe). Can anyone explain this?

4. What would I have to do to convert my current key rings from v1.x to v2.x?

5. Will the GPG Keychain Access program (currently v0.7.0.1) work with GPG v2.x, or would I be forced to do absolutely everything from the command line?

Thanks!

If you are referring to <elliott@...>'s post, please
note that the computer used was an Inspiron Mini.

version 1.2.2, as far as I can remember, did not include switching from
gpg to gpg2.
version 1.3.* does.

There's no need to convert your current key rings. I run both 1.4.9 and
2.0.11, they use the same keyrings.

"This is a simple key management program for GNU Privacy Guard. It has a
GUI and does some basic things. You'll have to go to the command line
for real power, though."

I am using GPG Keychain Access v0.7.0.1, it is not dependent on gpg or
gpg2.

It *might* be dependent on which MacOSX you are running. v0.7.0.1 was
written and tested only under Panther.

I am running it under Leopard, generally it works correctly, but from
time to time I have noticed some unusual occurrences, like launching
Terminal twice for the same action. So...be careful.

You're welcome, and please note that gpg2 is a project separate from
gpg. <http://macgpg2.wiki.sourceforge.net/>

For the sake of completeness (and the mail list archives!) with
Charly's kind help Scott has reported a completely painless
installation of MacGPG2.

MacGPG2 support available from the usual place, http://macgpg2.sourceforge.net

Take care,
