Hello,

I just tried to install SynCE on my Ubuntu 9.10 laptop and I got to the point where I installed the requred packages. I tested for a connection and I did see the list of files on my device, but when I ran the command:

synce-list-partnerships

I got the error:

error: unable to connect to running sync-engine

Please ensure sync-engine is running before executing this command

How do I start Sync?

Thank you,

Juan

What version did I install?

SynCE on Ubuntu Karmic - Windows Mobile 5/6/6.1

If this is not the information you need, where can I find the version?

Many thanks,

Juan

I believe there is a bug in the dbus activation file. Find the
file /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.synce.SyncEngine.service, you'll
need to edit this as root.

Where it says

Exec=/usr/bin/sync-engine

change it to

Exec=/usr/bin/synce-sync-engine

I forgot to mention that I did have the device connected (and turned on) to the computer when I ran the command.

I tried to create a partnership with:

synce-create-partnership "Linux desktop" "Contacts,Calendar"

and I got:

error: failed to create partnership
error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Python.AttributeError

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Juan

I'm convinced you have the wrong versions of something. Use synaptic
package manager to find the versions you have of the following packages.

libsynce0
librapi2
synce-sync-engine

I did have the wrong version of the engine file. I updated the file and I was able to complete the process and I had a successful sync. Thank you!

Now, I only set up to sync my contacts and calendar, but I would like to add my tasks. Is there an easy way to do that?

I really appreciate the help with this. I can now convince my wife to move from Windows to Linux :)

Kind regards,

Juan

I'm convinced you have the wrong versions of something. Use synaptic
package manager to find the versions you have of the following packages.

libsynce0
librapi2
synce-sync-engine
synce-hal

Allegedly, this works if you add it in to the settings in activesync on
the device, though I can't speak from experience.

However, you have a WM 6 device, which has a feature that is actually
useful in this situation. If you delete the partnership and the sync
group, the device will forget about anything you've synced to it from
only that partnership, leaving it in a nice clean state. Then just
recreate the sync group and partnership with all the types you want.
