System Requirements for video conferencingHi All, I am trying to work out the system requirements e.g. CPU type/speed
for a Linux server that we will need to purchase. I would need server to be able to handle 50 concurrent video
calls @768kbbs and also at the same time 20 concurrent video calls @2Mbps in
full proxy mode. And secondly I am wondering how well GnuGk works on a
virtual server and will this change the system requirements. Thanks, Matt Matt

Re: System Requirements for video conferencingJust remember that in virtual environments there are plenty of timing
problems. So proxying real-time traffic (video and/or voice) isn't a desirable target for this kind of environments. Don't wonder if You start to receive many complains about synchronizations and quality lost when load increases. What You can try is to put real-time in a real machine and signaling on a VM. This will have more chances to work. Edson. Re: System Requirements for video conferencingHi Matthew,
GnuGk works fine on virtual servers. I use VMWare a lot to test in different environments and it also works in the Amazon EC2 cloud. But as Edson said, beware of timing issues on your RTP traffic. As for system requirements, your bottle neck will be CPU and network throughput. As a value to compare with, a dual core Xenon 2GHz that handles 50 calls at 384kbps gets about 50% CPU load. So you would probably need about 4 times that CPU power. Please let us know how your experiments go, so we have another data point how much power is needed for that kind of load. Re: System Requirements for video conferencingHi Jan and Edison,
Thank you for the information once I have configured up a system I will post the specifications and results of my testing.
